The Okolona School demolition project is complete. The building was abandoned decades ago when Okolona and Gurdon consolidated. Through a $19,000 grant from Southern Bancorp, the large building containing asbestos was demolished and safely removed from the site. Playground equipment is the new focus of the site. Okolona Mayor James Cox and JP Sherry Kelley offer their appreciation for those who helped make the project possible. Cox said the city council have plans to develop the land for recreation, camping and events. “I appreciate Southern Bancorp, Bill Wright, Shelly Loe and everyone involved,” said Cox.
