The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $64,521 in housing counseling grants to three organizations in Arkansas.

Officials announced Friday that the money, part of $42 million awarded nationally, will help families find housing and prevent future foreclosures.

In Arkansas, $22,690 will go to Universal Housing Development Corp. in Russellville and $21,211 will go to the Jonesboro Urban Renewal and Housing Authority’s Housing and Community Development Organization. Another $20,620 will go to Southern Bancorp Community Partners.

The grants will assist families in becoming and remaining homeowners, provide assistance to renters and the homeless and offer financial literacy training to individuals and families.
