Next week Southern Bancorp and the Delta Bridge Project are launching a series of financial aid classes called Money Smart.
Money Smart, which will be held during the lunch hour April 22, April 24 and April 26, are designed to help make sense out of foreclosures, predatory lending practices and credit scores.
The classes will be led by guest speakers and by Charlestien Harris, a licensed financial counselor, and is on staff at Southern Bancorp. Harris said the first series of financial literacy classes debuted in February, and this second series coincides with Money Smart Week. The series is also inspired by community needs the bank has noticed.
“We have had a couple of personal cases where people have been scammed by foreclosure modification,” she said. “So we joined forces with the Mississippi Center for Justice.”
